Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening in Portland, Oregon

If you want whiter teeth come see us! Dr. Allen Tam’s primary emphasis is to preserve natural tooth structure. That is why when dental fillings, veneers, and/or crowns are not necessary to create a whiter smile. The non-invasive procedure of teeth whitening will improve the appearance of stained and discolored teeth.

How Teeth Whitening Works

To get started, it is important that you receive a professional cleaning to ensure your teeth surfaces are clean and free of tartar and decay. This will optimize the effects of the whitening process and minimize side effects. After that it only takes two easy office visits at your convenience.

At your first visit, impressions of your teeth will be made and on your second visit you will be fitted with custom trays and given a take-home kit which includes whitening gels. With custom whitening trays, you get the best results because they fit your teeth perfectly and hold the whitening gel securely in place. This helps to reduce sensitivity that can sometimes occur when you whiten your teeth.

You will also retain your whitening trays so that you can touch up your smile, as needed. If you run out of whitening gel, you can come by the office, where we will sell refills.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

If it is instant results you’re after, in-office whitening is your best bet. In one visit to our office, Dr. Tam can significantly brighten your smile and bleach away stains.

We will place a professional strength whitening gel on your teeth. We allow the gel to remain on your teeth for fifteen to twenty minutes and can repeat the process up to three times in one office visit. You will walk out the door with significantly whiter teeth that you can easily maintain using whitening trays at home.

Common Side Effects of Teeth Whitening

It is likely that you will have fewer side effects with this custom system than with disposable trays or strips because your trays are designed to keep the whitening gel on your teeth and away from your gums. However, if you have gum recession or a history of sensitivity, you may experience tender gums or tooth sensitivity. Both conditions are temporary.
